Since 2021, the global export pattern of secondary copper and aluminum raw materials has undergone significant changes. Major exporting countries such as the US, Germany, and Canada have continuously improved their domestic sorting and utilization capabilities, leading to a general decline in their exports of secondary copper and aluminum raw materials, with reductions ranging from 20,000 to 160,000 mt. Despite remaining the top exporter, the US has seen its exports of copper and aluminum scrap decline by 100,000 mt. Germany's exports have also decreased by 160,000 mt, though it still ranks among the top three globally. These changes have resulted in a reduction in global total exports of secondary copper raw materials from 6 million mt to 5 million mt, and secondary aluminum raw materials from 13.4 million mt to 11.7 million mt.
Additionally, the diversity of raw material importing countries has increased, with emerging economies such as China, India, and Southeast Asian countries becoming new engines for the import of secondary copper and aluminum raw materials. As a highly internationalized and market-oriented industry, the secondary copper and aluminum industry benefits from Southeast Asia's prominent geographical advantages and China's strong processing capabilities and market demand. Regional cooperation is conducive to forming an international industrial pattern with complementary advantages.
In this context, from June 12-13, 2025, SMM Information & Technology Co., Ltd. will host the 2025 SMM 2nd Global Recycled Metals Industry Chain Summit Forum in Thailand, invitingRobin Wiener, President of Recycled Materials Association,Amar Singh, Secretary General of the Indian Recycling Bureau, Liang Jiali, Deputy General Manager of Foshan Lvtian Environmental Protection Machinery Equipment Co., Ltd., Ross Gunther, President of Cimco Resources, Inc., and Yousef Al Sharif, Manager of Sharif Metals Group, among others, to participate inthe sub-forum - Copper and Aluminum Forum, where they will conduct in-depth analyses of new opportunities in the green supply chain of the global secondary copper and aluminum industry from multiple dimensions, including global market dynamics, supply-demand pattern development, and industrial technological innovation, focusing on the secondary copper and aluminum markets in Southeast Asia.
