Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On May 6, 2025, WeRide, a Chinese autonomous driving technology company, announced an expanded strategic partnership with Uber Technologies, Inc., the world's largest mobility and delivery platform. Over the next five years, the two companies plan to roll out Robotaxi services in 15 additional international cities, including markets across Europe and the Middle East.
WeRide said this upgraded collaboration underscores their shared commitment to advancing future mobility through cutting-edge autonomous driving technologies and accelerating the global adoption of autonomous ride-hailing services.
WeRide and Uber initially entered into a strategic partnership in September 2024. By December that year, the companies had successfully launched public Robotaxi operations in Abu Dhabi, with the fleet expected to grow to 50 vehicles by mid-2025. In April 2025, the partnership expanded to Dubai.
Under the new agreement, the companies have committed to launching Robotaxi fleets in several new cities outside China and the United States each year. Users will be able to book WeRide's Robotaxi services via the Uber app, with Uber managing fleet operations.
"We're thrilled to take our collaboration with Uber to a new level. This intercontinental expansion plan reflects our confidence in each other's technologies and our shared commitment to innovative and sustainable transportation solutions," said Tony Han, Founder and CEO of WeRide. "It aligns perfectly with WeRide's mission to bring affordable and accessible autonomous mobility to users around the world."
"This is the largest strategic partnership ever announced in the autonomous driving space, marking a significant step toward making autonomous driving services available in more cities globally," said Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber. "With Uber's global network, operational expertise, and platform technology, we're excited to work with a world-class autonomous driving company like WeRide to scale commercial deployment and deliver the benefits of autonomous vehicles to more users."
