As sales of high-end EVs surge and their tax burdens remain relatively light, the Japanese government is beginning to explore adjustments to the automobile tax to achieve a fairer tax system. In fiscal year 2024, the pre-tax selling prices of 44 EV models sold in Japan were 10 million yen (approximately US$70,000) or higher.
