SMM News on April 28:

Rare Earth Ores

Prices: The price of rare earth carbonate is approximately 33,100 yuan/mt, monazite is around 40,800 yuan/mt, and the standard price of medium-yttrium, europium-rich ore is about 180,000 yuan/mt.

Supply and Demand: Currently, the overall prices of rare earth ores are relatively stable. Both upstream and downstream players are adopting a wait-and-see attitude, and market purchases are not active.

Rare Earth Oxides

Prices: The quotation range for Pr-Nd oxide is approximately 410,000-411,000 yuan/mt. The mainstream quotation range for dysprosium oxide is 1.6-1.62 million yuan/mt, and the quotation for terbium oxide has been adjusted to around 6.72-6.8 million yuan/mt.

Supply and Demand: Yesterday, the price of Pr-Nd oxide increased slightly, but overall, the fluctuation range was relatively small. Some industry players still hold a pessimistic view of the future market. However, suppliers are maintaining firm quotations, and it is difficult to find low-priced goods in the market. Overall, the actual trading volume in the market is low.

Rare Earth Metals

Prices: The mainstream quotation range for Pr-Nd alloy is 498,000-502,000 yuan/mt. The quotation for dysprosium-iron alloy is approximately 1.58-1.6 million yuan/mt, and the quotation for terbium metal is around 8.35-8.45 million yuan/mt.

Supply and Demand: In terms of metals, metal manufacturers adjust their quotations in line with oxides. Overall, the price of Pr-Nd alloy is relatively stable, but the prices of medium-heavy rare earth metals remain weak. The situation of poor downstream orders still exists and has not significantly improved.

NdFeB Blanks

Prices: The price of NdFeB blank N38 (Ce) is reported at 133-143 yuan/kg; the price of NdFeB blank 40M is reported at 179-189 yuan/kg; the price of NdFeB blank 40H is reported at 183-193 yuan/kg; and the price of NdFeB blank 45SH (Ce) is reported at 233-253 yuan/kg.

Supply and Demand: Last week, due to the dual impact of weak end-use demand and the continuous decline in Pr-Nd alloy prices, magnetic material manufacturers received poor orders, and market trading sentiment was low. Most magnetic material manufacturers still adopted a purchasing strategy based on demand, mainly focusing on consuming inventory and waiting to see the next market trend.

NdFeB Scrap

Prices: The price of Pr-Nd recycled from NdFeB scrap is reported at 424-435 yuan/kg; the price of dysprosium recycled from NdFeB scrap is reported at 1,584-1,606 yuan/kg; and the price of terbium recycled from NdFeB scrap is reported at 5,115-5,335 yuan/kg.

Supply and Demand: Last week, the price of NdFeB scrap showed a trend towards stabilization. Affected by the poor orders of upstream magnetic material manufacturers and the slightly weak prices of downstream oxides, the market exhibited a pattern of weak supply and demand, with overall market prices reaching a low level.

Luxembourg-based Frontier Rare Earths today announced it successfully obtained a $20 million investment from South Africa's Industrial Development Corporation (IDS) and signed an offtake agreement with France's Carester. The company has now initiated the final feasibility study for its South African magnet-use rare earth and battery-grade manganese project. Frontier Rare Earths is currently advancing the development of the Zandkopsdrift project in South Africa. The project is expected to achieve an annual capacity of approximately 3,038 mt of Pr-Nd oxide, 114 mt of dysprosium oxide, and 25 mt of terbium oxide over the first 25 years.
