According to Vietnamese media reports, Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (TKV) recently announced that it had completed the preparation of the "TKV Bauxite-Alumina-Aluminum Integrated Development Plan for 2030 and Vision for 2045" and submitted it for approval. The plan proposes to increase the annual capacity of the Lam Dong Bauxite-Alumina-Aluminum Complex from 650,000 mt of alumina to 2 million mt, and to build a new aluminum smelter with an annual production capacity of 500,000 mt of aluminum ingots.
Currently, Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group is actively preparing the investment approval materials for the expansion project of the Lam Dong Bauxite-Aluminum Joint Venture (adding 1.2 million mt/year of alumina capacity). The expansion project is expected to require an investment of 30.676 trillion Vietnamese dong (approximately $1.178 billion). It is reported that the Lam Dong Complex plans to implement the capacity expansion in phases, with the first phase adding 1.2 million mt/year of alumina capacity; the second phase aims to achieve a total capacity of 2 million mt/year by 2030, ranking among the top 10 alumina production sites globally.
