New Research Uses Zein to Enhance Lithium-Sulfur Battery Performance
A new study reveals that zein can be used to improve the performance of lithium-sulfur batteries, a discovery that is expected to promote the widespread application of high-energy, lightweight lithium-sulfur batteries in fields such as EVs and renewable energy ESS. Researchers from Washington State University in the US recently published a paper in the Journal of Power Supply, stating that they combined zein with common plastic materials to create a protective separator, significantly enhancing the performance of coin-type lithium-sulfur batteries. The researchers validated the battery's operational effectiveness through numerical simulations and experimental studies. Currently, they are further investigating the mechanism of this process, exploring which amino acids play a key role and how to optimize the protein structure. The research team hopes to collaborate with the industry to conduct larger-scale experimental battery research and promote the industrialisation of this process.
