Turkey has announced plans to utilize its abundant geothermal resources to extract lithium from geothermal well brines, positioning itself to become a globally significant lithium producer. The country's Energy Ministry confirmed the success of pilot projects and outlined intentions to scale up commercial production.
This initiative is expected to enhance Turkey's role in the emerging battery supply chain while supporting its energy transition strategy. With one of Europe's largest geothermal reserves, Turkey's development of lithium extraction technology could significantly reduce its reliance on lithium imports.
