This summary provides a snapshot of recent production updates at zinc smelters across China, based on information collected by SMM. The updates reflect near-term adjustments due to planned maintenance, technical upgrades, etc.
Maintenance/Technical Adjustments:
According to SMM, a smelter in East China plans to carry out zinc smelting maintenance in early May, followed by lead smelting maintenance in June. Each phase of maintenance is expected to last approximately 20–25 days, potentially reducing output for both metals over a 25-day period.
According to SMM, a zinc smelter in Central China plans to begin maintenance in early May, which is expected to last around 25 days.
According to SMM, a zinc smelter in Northwest China is planning routine maintenance from July to August, lasting approximately two months.
According to SMM, a zinc smelter in Northwest China plans to conduct a minor technical upgrade in May, with an expected impact on production.
According to SMM, a zinc smelter in Southwest China completed maintenance in mid-April and is expected to return to full production capacity in May. Output is likely to recover accordingly.
According to SMM, a zinc smelter in Central China has postponed its maintenance originally scheduled in May due to persistently high sulfuric acid prices. The maintenance is now expected to be delayed until the fourth quarter.
According to SMM, a zinc smelter in Southwest China has postponed its planned April maintenance due to persistently high sulfuric acid prices. The maintenance is now rescheduled for the end of 2025 and is expected to last approximately 25 days. SMM will continue to monitor the timing and production impact of the revised plan.
Expected Production Increase:
According to SMM, a galvanizing plant in Hebei is planning to upgrade its production line in 2026. Currently the plant is running with an annual capacity of 80,000 tons, the new line is expected to significantly increase the capacity.
According to SMM, a zinc smelter in Southwest China plans to further ramp up production in May. Its output is expected to rise MoM accordingly.
According to SMM, a zinc smelter in Northern China plans to ramp up production to normal operating levels by the end of April. Its output is expected to increase MoM accordingly.
According to SMM, a zinc smelter in Southwest China resumed normal operations in early April, resulting in a MoM production increase expected in both April and May.
Please note that the above updates are based on market information gathered by SMM and are intended for general reference only, actual production changes may vary. Please refer to the official refined zinc monthly production data released by SMM for precise output data. SMM will continue to monitor further developments and provide timely updates on confirmed production adjustments.
