St Barbara announced that its Simberi mine license extension in Papua New Guinea has received strong community support.
The company stated that during a hearing chaired by the Director of the Papua New Guinea Mineral Resources Authority, its proposal for the extension of the sulfide ore expansion license and royalty scheme garnered support from 150 individuals.
If the license extension is approved, the mine's production could continue until 2038, enabling the development of 2.7 million ounces of sulfide ore resources and potentially increasing annual gold production to over 200,000 ounces.
The authorities are currently evaluating the application.
