Micron Technology (MU.O), a US-based memory chip manufacturer, informed its US customers that it will impose additional surcharges on certain products starting Wednesday, April 9, in response to President Trump's new tariffs. Micron's overseas production sites are primarily located in Asia. Sources stated that the company notified customers in a letter that while Trump's announcement last week exempted semiconductors, it applies to memory modules and solid-state drives. They said that these products, used for data storage in various applications such as automobiles, laptops, and data center servers, will now be subject to additional surcharges. The notice to customers echoed the company's remarks during its earnings call on March 21, when a Micron executive stated that the company intends to pass on the costs to customers in regions affected by the tariffs.
