US President Trump announced a temporary suspension of some "reciprocal tariffs" on Wednesday, triggering an epic rebound in US stocks. However, just one day later, Trump once again issued threats regarding "reciprocal tariffs," reigniting market tension.

On Thursday, Trump threatened, if countries cannot reach agreements with the US, he will change the practice of temporarily suspending "reciprocal tariffs" for 90 days for specific countries and restore tariffs to higher levels.

"If we can't reach the agreement we want to reach, or the agreement we must reach, or the agreement that is beneficial to both sides, then we go back to the way it was," Trump told reporters during a cabinet meeting on Thursday.

But when asked if this meant he would not extend the "90-day suspension," Trump did not rule out the possibility (of extending the "90-day suspension"). He said, "We'll have to see what happens then."

When asked about the progress his administration has made in reaching an agreement with the first country on tariffs, Trump said "very close," but did not specify which country.

On Wednesday, Trump stated that, given that more than 75 countries and regions have contacted the US, hoping to negotiate on tariff issues and have not retaliated against the US in any way, the US will suspend the imposition of high "reciprocal tariffs" on these countries for 90 days, but the basic 10% tariff will remain in effect.

After Trump announced the suspension of "reciprocal tariffs," European Commission President von der Leyen stated in a statement that day that the EU agreed to suspend the countermeasures against US tariffs originally scheduled for April 15 for 90 days.

On Thursday, Trump said he would negotiate with European countries as a whole. He stated that it was wise for European countries to refrain from retaliation, but he once again criticized that the EU "has indeed taken advantage of the US. They were established to exploit the US."

During the cabinet meeting on Thursday, government officials including US Treasury Secretary Besant and Commerce Secretary Lutnick expressed confidence that countries would come to the negotiating table.

In the week since the announcement of "reciprocal tariffs," about 75 countries have approached the Trump administration, hoping to reach agreements. Besant said on Wednesday that this was a major factor in the Trump administration's decision to suspend tariffs.

White House National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett said on Thursday that negotiations with some trading partners are progressing well, with some agreements nearing completion last week.

Hassett revealed that the US Trade Representative's Office has informed him that about 15 countries have already made "clear offers," and the US is studying and evaluating these offers.
