According to foreign media reports, automaker Stellantis recently announced that it has ceased production of the T03 compact EV from its Chinese partner Leap Motor at its Tychy plant in Poland since March 30, and is currently evaluating alternative production plans.

Stellantis stated: "While the company remains fully committed to launching Leap Motor EVs in Europe, it is currently assessing different production options." The company did not provide further details, including whether this car model will be transferred to other European factories for production, nor did it explain the reasons for the decision to stop producing the T03 model in Poland.

A source familiar with the matter said that Stellantis and Leap Motor currently do not plan to resume production of the T03 model in Europe. The source added that the two companies are planning to upgrade the T03 to a Class A model and produce it outside China starting from 2026.

In 2024, Stellantis and Leap Motor abandoned plans to produce another Leap Motor model, the B10 pure electric SUV, in Poland.

Spain, which abstained from voting on EU tariffs on Chinese EVs, has now become a hot spot for the production of the Leap Motor B10 EV. In addition, relatively low labor costs and generous government subsidies for clean energy vehicles are also reasons why Stellantis and Leap Motor prefer to produce the B10 model in Spain.

In March this year, sources said that Stellantis and Leap Motor plan to invest $200 million in a factory in Spain.

Leap Motor recently also stated that its joint venture with Stellantis has officially launched sales of two Leap Motor models—the T03 and the large electric SUV C10—in the UK market through Stellantis' dealers.

The cooperation between Leap Motor and Stellantis dates back to October 2023, when Stellantis invested approximately €1.5 billion to acquire a 21% stake in Leap Motor, making Stellantis a major shareholder of Leap Motor and granting it two seats on Leap Motor's board of directors. According to a previous announcement from Leap Motor, Stellantis and Leap Motor also established a joint venture named "Leap Motor International," with Stellantis holding a 51% controlling stake. This grants Stellantis the exclusive rights to export, sell, and produce Leap Motor EVs outside Greater China.
