Published: Apr 10, 2025 10:06

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce responded to media inquiries regarding China's additional lawsuit at the WTO against the US escalation of tariff measures on China.

Question: It is reported that China has filed an additional lawsuit at the WTO against the US for further imposing a 50% tariff on Chinese products. Could you provide more details on this matter?

Answer: On April 8, Eastern Time, the US announced an additional 50% tariff on certain Chinese products, based on the so-called "reciprocal tariff" measures. China has filed a lawsuit against the US's latest tariff hike under the WTO dispute settlement mechanism.

The US tariff measures severely violate WTO rules. The additional 50% tariff is a further mistake, highlighting the unilateral and bullying nature of the US measures. China will firmly defend its legitimate rights and interests in accordance with WTO rules, and steadfastly uphold the multilateral trading system and international economic and trade order.
