The cooperation marks a significant step in their joint efforts to promote clean energy development in Southeast Asia.

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On April 2, GAC Energy Technology (Thailand) Co., Ltd. and Thailand's leading renewable energy company PowerVault signed an ecological cooperation agreement in Bangkok, marking a significant step in their joint efforts to promote clean energy development in Southeast Asia.

As a core player in GAC Group's new energy vehicle (NEV) strategy, GAC Energy is instrumental in supporting the group's global expansion. With GAC INTERNATIONAL entering a new phase, the company is deepening its presence in Thailand by building out comprehensive energy solutions, including home and public charging infrastructure.

So far, GAC Energy has deployed 27 charging stations in Thailand and aims to add 25 more by 2025, with plans to expand to 200 supercharging stations across 100 cities by 2027. Additionally, by the first half of 2025, GAC will establish Thailand's first service center capable of multi-level battery repairs—covering cells, modules, and packs—creating a regional after-sales service network centered in Bangkok and extending across Southeast Asia.

PowerVault is one of Thailand's top renewable energy companies, with extensive experience in integrating solar and smart grid systems, particularly in distributed energy management and solar-plus-energy storage integrated solutions. It has partnered with publicly listed STP&I Public Company Limited to form Sino Power Co., Ltd., a specialized investment firm focused on Power Purchase Agreements (PPA).

PowerVault has actively contributed to Thailand's energy transition, primarily supporting factories, industrial parks, and local utilities like PEA (Provincial Electricity Authority).

The cooperation framework between GAC Energy and PowerVault is aligned with Thailand's national goals—achieving 50% NEV penetration by 2035 and 70% renewable energy by 2050. The partnership leverages each side's strengths to foster sustainable, mutually beneficial development across three key areas:

1. Co-development of solar-energy storage-NEV charging projects

The first phase of a 150 kW solar-storage-charging demo project has already been completed at GAC AION's Rayong factory office and parking area. With models like the HYPTEC HT, the AION V, and the AION UT gaining traction in Thailand, energy demand at the Rayong plant and its supporting component facilities is rising.

The two companies will jointly scale up solar-energy storage-charging deployments to improve grid load balancing and increase the proportion of self-generated green electricity. PowerVault will lead project investment and asset management, while GAC Energy will coordinate resources and provide EV charging and energy storage solutions, along with an operations management platform. The factory, as the end user, will benefit from preferential green electricity pricing. Depending on specific needs, factories may also opt to invest directly using GAC's and PowerVault's engineering solutions.

2. Technological collaboration and innovation

The partnership will explore deeper integration across vehicle, charging infrastructure, grid, and storage systems, advancing data interconnectivity between energy equipment and power networks. Starting from the second quarter of 2025, GAC Energy plans to introduce ultra-fast 3C charging technologies in Thailand. Together with PowerVault's localized expertise, both parties will explore V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) applications to support the digital and intelligent upgrade of Thailand's power grid.

3. Local ecosystem expansion

Leveraging GAC's extensive network of over 100 dealerships and a well-established manufacturing and supply chain ecosystem in Southeast Asia, the partners aim to develop scalable, replicable models. By studying consumer electricity usage behaviors and aligning with B2B (business-to-business) and B2C (business-to-consumer) needs, they will deepen ecosystem cooperation. The collaboration also includes joint participation in government and public sector tenders, accelerating the deployment of green electricity in industrial operations, public transportation, and heavy-duty truck logistics.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
