The partnership will focus on the development of new energy vehicle (NEV) charging and battery swap infrastructure, smart energy management systems, and the integration of virtual power plants.

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On April 1, 2025, Changsha NIO Energy Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of NIO Power, signed a cooperation agreement with Hunan Eastern Digital Intelligence Energy Investment Co., Ltd. ("Digital Intelligence"), a wholly-owned subsidiary of CETD Group, in Changsha city, according to a post on NIO's WeChat account. The partnership will focus on the development of new energy vehicle (NEV) charging and battery swap infrastructure, smart energy management systems, and the integration of virtual power plants.

Under the agreement, the two parties plan to jointly build 100 integrated "solar-energy storage-charging-battery swap" energy stations in Hunan province. Leveraging their respective strengths, they will collaborate on battery asset management, explore the integration of NIO's battery swap stations into Dongfang Shuzhi's virtual power plant, and participate in grid demand response initiatives. The partnership also includes joint efforts in station operation and maintenance, data management, and vehicle-to-grid interaction, contributing to green and low-carbon development.

As a key energy platform enterprise in Changsha Economic and Technological Development Zone, Dongfang Shuzhi is committed to a technology-driven, green development strategy. Centered on investment, construction, and operation of user-side comprehensive energy solutions, the company promotes smart and sustainable energy practices through multi-energy complementarity and cascade utilization.

This collaboration is expected to accelerate the expansion of NEV energy infrastructure in Hunan. The first 10 pilot stations will be established in Changsha, targeting key locations such as urban transportation hubs and industrial parks. To date, NIO Power has built over 90 battery swap stations and more than 630 charging piles in Hunan, completing over 1.5 million battery swaps.

As of April 1, NIO Power has built 3,239 battery swap stations nationwide, including a "9 north-south, 9 east-west, and 14 urban clusters" highway network with nearly 1,000 highway swap stations, covering over 700 cities and enabling seamless intercity battery swapping. The company has provided more than 70 million times of battery swap services to users.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
