Sumitomo Metal Japan plans to cut copper production by 2.6% in the 25/26 fiscal year.

On Tuesday, April 1, Sumitomo Metal Mining, a Japanese copper smelter, announced that it plans to produce 433,000 mt of refined copper in the 2025/26 fiscal year starting this month, a decrease of 2.6% compared to the previous year.

The company plans to conduct a six-week maintenance at its Toyo Smelter & Refinery in western Japan starting in late October, and a one-week maintenance at its nickel plant in May and December.

In a statement, Sumitomo Metal Mining said that for ferronickel, it will adjust production based on sales and other factors.
