The price of magnesium metal has significantly fallen below that of aluminum after the previous pullback, making its cost-performance advantage reappear and its functional value prominent. The innovative development achievements of magnesium and magnesium alloys are increasingly growing, and innovative application cases of magnesium alloys continue to emerge, ushering in new opportunities for expanded applications, especially in areas such as lightweight transportation, intelligent manufacturing, green construction, electronics and telecommunications, solid-state energy storage, and medical health, where there is great potential to open up new application blue oceans. As a lightweight structural and functional material, magnesium metal will play an important role in promoting green, low-carbon, and high-quality development, demonstrating greater potential.
The fluctuation of magnesium prices affects the development of the upstream and downstream of the industry chain. The trend of magnesium prices in March was quite volatile. After hitting a multi-year low on March 6, magnesium prices began to rebound and rise with the change in the supply-demand relationship. Although demand has not shown significant improvement, which still suppresses the performance of magnesium prices, concerns about tight supply and low corporate inventories have driven magnesium prices to surge by more than 9% in March. What is the future direction of magnesium prices?
From March 31 to April 2, the 2025 Magnesium Industry Chain and Magnesium Market (Jinhua·Lanxi) Forum, jointly organized by Shang Magnesium Network and SMM Information & Technology Co., Ltd. (SMM), with special support from the National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloy Materials and the Magnesium Alloy Branch of the Chinese Materials Research Society, and special co-organization by the Yangtze River Delta (Lanxi) Magnesium Materials Research Center of Chongqing University and Lanxi Huachuang Metal Materials Research Institute Co., Ltd., and co-organized by Baowu Magnesium Technology Co., Ltd., Wuchan Zhongda (Zhejiang) Industrial Investment Co., Ltd., Wuchan Zhongda Qixin Alloy Materials Co., Ltd., and Ningbo Free Trade Zone Haitian Zhisheng Metal Forming Equipment Co., Ltd., was grandly held at the Jinhua Junlan Hotel in Jinhua, Zhejiang. The conference brought together dozens of domestic and international magnesium industry experts, scholars, government representatives, and senior executives from upstream and downstream enterprises in the magnesium industry chain to discuss cutting-edge technologies, market trends, and innovative applications in the magnesium industry, aiming to pool wisdom from all parties and jointly plan a bright future for the magnesium industry.
