Weekly Progress on Recycling Projects:

【Phase I Battery Production Launches at Yantai Industrial Park】
On March 28, a new energy strategy promotion event titled "New Momentum, Electric Future" was held in Yantai, Shandong Province. The first battery product rolled off the production line at a new energy power industrial park, marking the official launch of Phase I. The Phase I facility spans 1,007 mu (≈67 hectares) and includes 20GWh battery cell and PACK production lines, equivalent to an annual output of 300,000 commercial vehicle battery systems. This will address critical gaps in Yantai’s "three major electric systems" industrial chain for new energy vehicles.

【150,000-Ton/Year LFP Project Launched in Guangxi】
On March 28, a listed company (stock code: 002539) announced the signing of an investment agreement to build a green chemical and new energy materials project in Guigang, Guangxi, with total investment of ¥15.9 billion. Phase I (¥1 billion) will occupy 300 mu (≈20 hectares) and include a 900,000-ton compound fertilizer production line. Phase II (¥6 billion) will cover 1,200 mu (≈80 hectares) and involve annual production of 1 million tons of synthetic ammonia, 1.5 million tons of urea, 300,000 tons of ammonium nitrate, and 270,000 tons of nitric acid, supported by coal-fired steam boilers and storage facilities.

【¥3.62B Battery Recycling Project Advances in Anhui】
On March 24, environmental review documents were released for a ¥3.62 billion battery recycling project in Hefei, Anhui. The facility will include battery disassembly workshops, leaching pretreatment units, lithium iron phosphate (LFP) and lithium carbonate production lines, and graphite regeneration workshops. Upon completion, it will annually produce 84,000 tons of battery-grade LFP, 18,000 tons of lithium carbonate, 25,000 tons of LFP materials, 30,000 tons of graphite, and 1.5GWh second-life battery packs, alongside 7,400 tons of copper and 38,000 tons of aluminum as byproducts.

【Retired Battery Recycling Project Breaks Ground in Shaanxi】
On March 25, environmental filings revealed progress on a ¥128 million retired battery recycling and cascade utilization project in Hanzhong, Shaanxi. The project will establish two production lines for battery disassembly and reuse, with an annual processing capacity of 21,000 units.

【Phase I of 50,000-Ton Battery Recycling Project Completed】
A ¥1.16 billion battery recycling project has completed Phase I construction. Covering 170 mu (≈11.3 hectares), the facility aims to process 20,000 tons of retired LFP batteries annually in Phase I, with full-scale operations projected to generate ¥1 billion in annual revenue.

【400,000-Ton Battery Recycling Center Planned in Anhui】
Environmental disclosures for a battery recycling center in Jinzhai County, Anhui, indicate plans to process 400,000 tons of retired lithium battery modules annually. The project will occupy 7,098 m² within a local solid waste treatment facility.

【40,000-Ton Battery Recycling Facility Approved in Shandong】
A new facility in Linyi, Shandong, has entered environmental review. The project will feature four battery disassembly lines, two cascade utilization lines, and six crushing/sorting lines, with annual capacity to process 40,000 tons of retired EV batteries. Operations are expected to begin by May 2025.

【Battery Materials Project Advances in Zhejiang】
On March 14, environmental filings were released for a battery precursor materials and recycling project in Suichang, Zhejiang. The facility will annually recycle 10,000 tons of retired batteries and 5,000 tons of black powder while producing 13,830 tons of electronic materials.

【¥4.53B Titanium-Lithium Battery Plant Breaks Ground in Jiangsu】
On March 18, construction began on a ¥4.53 billion high-energy-density titanium-lithium battery plant in Lianyungang, Jiangsu. The 9GWh-capacity facility will supply batteries for logistics, heavy trucks, and drones.

High-Grade NPI Smelter Profits Squeezed as Ore Prices Rise and Sales Prices Dip
[SMM Nickel Flash] Based on nickel ore prices from 25 days ago, smelter profits for high-grade NPI remained high this week. However, from the current raw material side, ore prices from both the Philippines and Indonesia increased, while auxiliary material prices saw a slight pullback, leading to an increase in the cash cost of producing high-grade NPI from spot ore. At the same time, high-grade NPI prices experienced some pullback, making it difficult for smelter profits to see sustained improvement.

High-Grade NPI Prices Fall, Expected to Stabilize as Chinese New Year Approaches
[SMM Nickel Flash] This week, due to a sharp decline in futures triggering arbitrage selling, high-grade NPI prices fell significantly. However, after the selling activity subsided, upstream quotations and the market center gradually returned to normal levels, supported by cost factors. Looking ahead, as the Chinese New Year holiday approaches, market activity is expected to remain subdued, and high-grade NPI prices are projected to hover at highs with limited fluctuations.
