The Tunisian Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Energy has finalized power purchase agreements with several international companies to support the development of 500 MW of solar parks in Tunisia. These agreements, announced on Monday by Ouael Chouchene, Secretary of State for Energy Transition, involve Scatec ASA from Norway, France’s Qair Group, and Voltalia. The companies emerged as the winners of the AO-01-2022 tender, concluded in late 2024.

Qair Group will establish two plants in Sidi Bouzid and Gafsa with capacities of 198 MW and 100 MW, respectively. Voltalia, based in Paris, will develop a 100-MW photovoltaic farm in Gabes, while Scatec, in collaboration with a subsidiary of Toyota Tsusho Corp, will build another 100-MW plant in Sidi Bouzid. Scatec separately confirmed the signing of a 25-year power purchase agreement for the project, with a total capital expenditure of EUR 87 million.

The four solar parks are projected to generate 1,100 GWh annually, contributing 5% of Tunisia’s total electricity output, with the awarded capacity expected to go online by 2027.
