Beijing (Gasgoo)- On March 21, Tesla's Shanghai Megafactory completed its first export shipment of Megapack energy storage systems, with the initial batch destined for Australia. Moving forward, Megapacks produced at the Shanghai facility will be supplied to both domestic and Asia-Pacific markets.

Tesla officially commenced operations at the Shanghai Megafactory on February 11, 2025, marking the rollout of its first large-scale commercial energy storage system from the plant. This facility is Tesla's first energy storage factory outside the United States.

Megapack is one of Tesla's flagship energy storage products, widely used for grid stabilization and renewable energy integration in utility-scale and large commercial projects. The system is already deployed in over 65 countries and regions, including the United States, Canada, Australia, the U.K., and Japan. Each Megapack can store approximately 3.9 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity, providing an efficient solution for grid stability and renewable energy management.

According to Tesla, the Shanghai Megafactory is designed for an annual production capacity of 10,000 Megapacks, equivalent to nearly 40 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of energy storage. Production ramp-up began in the first quarter of 2025. With two Megafactories in Lathrop, the United States, and Shanghai, China, Tesla aims for a total annual capacity of 80 GWh, sufficient to power 10 million households for a year.
