Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On March 20, CATL signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Zenith Steel Group Company Limited ("Zenith Steel") in Changzhou, Jiangsu, according to CATL's press release. The two companies will collaborate in areas such as clean energy, green logistics, and resource recycling, jointly exploring pathways for achieving a zero-carbon steel industry.
As a leading domestic steel manufacturer in China, Zenith Steel operates major production bases in Changzhou, Nantong, and Huai'an, with its products widely used in the automotive, aerospace, and high-end manufacturing sectors. The company has invested nearly 20 billion yuan to establish a green manufacturing system, integrating wind, solar, and energy storage projects while continuously innovating in carbon reduction technologies, processes, and equipment.
CATL stated that the partnership aims to create a new collaborative model across the steel, energy, and carbon sectors, addressing the industry's need for sustainable, high-quality development. The two companies plan to implement high-impact demonstration projects, further enhancing industrial competitiveness through "zero-carbon steel" and injecting green momentum into the sector.
Notably, just days earlier, on March 15, CATL signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the government of Dongying, Shandong Province, to advance its zero-carbon initiatives. The partnership focuses on the development of a zero-carbon industrial park, industrial electrification, technological innovation, and the application of new products and technologies, as well as promoting electrified transportation. The goal is to establish Dongying as a model city for zero-carbon transformation.
Under the agreement, CATL and Dongying city will leverage their respective strengths to develop CATL’s first zero-carbon industrial park with a high proportion of direct green electricity supply in China. The project's first phase includes the construction of a 40GWh green intelligent lithium battery manufacturing base in Kenli District, serving as a dual benchmark for both "zero-carbon factories" and "lighthouse factories." Plans for a second phase will be introduced in due course to further expand production capacity.
