Beijing (Gasgoo)- FAW Group's commercial vehicle arm FAW Jiefang has officially commenced construction of its mini commercial vehicle project in Qingdao, Shandong Province, according to the company's announcement on March 20.
Once operational, the facility will be able to produce both fuel-powered and new energy vehicle models on a shared production line, with an annual capacity of 100,000 mini trucks. Trial production is scheduled to begin by the end of October this year.
The project introduces an innovative government-enterprise collaboration model, revitalizing resources from the existing new energy vehicle base and upgrading the former Hailong Auto City plant. Key enhancements include the construction of a new welding workshop, upgrades to painting and final assembly workshops, and the installation of advanced manufacturing equipment to meet modern production requirements.
Currently, stamping molds have entered production, welding equipment is being installed, and other process modifications are progressing as planned. Additionally, supporting infrastructure upgrades within the industrial park have also begun to ensure coordinated project development.
The project will support both traditional and new energy commercial vehicle platforms, covering gasoline, natural gas, battery-electric, and hybrid powertrains. It will integrate advanced intelligent manufacturing technologies to establish an efficient, flexible, and sustainable production system.
A total of 153 process development tasks have been planned to optimize production efficiency and enhance product quality. Furthermore, the project will adopt a passenger vehicle-level matching system to refine vehicle design, ensuring a high-quality exterior finish and superior product standards.
