March 20 National Building Materials Inventory Overview

On March 20, the total rebar inventory was 7.8146 million mt, down 160,800 mt WoW, a decline of 2.02% WoW and 31.26% YoY. The total wire rod inventory was 1.9551 million mt, down 116,600 mt WoW, a decline of 5.63% WoW and 33.51% YoY.
This week, total rebar inventory was 7.8146 million mt, down 160,800 mt WoW, a decrease of 2.02% WoW and 31.26% YoY.
This week, social inventory of rebar was 5.6094 million mt, down 92,400 mt WoW, a decrease of 1.62% WoW and 29.03% YoY.
This week, in-plant inventory of rebar was 2.2052 million mt, down 68,400 mt WoW, a decrease of 3.01% WoW and 36.36% YoY.
This week, total wire rod inventory was 1.9551 million mt, down 116,600 mt WoW, a decrease of 5.63% WoW and 33.51% YoY.
This week, social inventory of wire rod was 1.0224 million mt, down 47,700 mt WoW, a decrease of 4.46% WoW and 28.12% YoY.
This week, in-plant inventory of wire rod was 932,800 mt, down 68,900 mt WoW, a decrease of 6.88% WoW and 38.56% YoY.

This week, ferrous metals were in the doldrums, with coking coal and coke staging a mid-week rise. At the beginning of the week, financial markets experienced sharp fluctuations, dragging down sentiment in the ferrous chain and leading to a pullback in futures. Mid-week, Indonesia's cut to coke production quotas drove coking coal and coke futures to lead the gains, though the impact was more pronounced on thermal coal, while coking coal's rise was largely sentiment-driven and short-lived. In the latter part of the week, finished products continued their seasonal inventory buildup, and support from the raw material side weakened, causing the entire ferrous chain to pull back. In the spot market, with the Chinese New Year holiday approaching, purchasing activity slowed down further, with end-users only making limited, as-needed purchases at low prices.
