On Wednesday, March 19, Zambia's Finance Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane stated that Zambia's copper production rebounded from a 14-year low in 2023, thanks to project expansions and increased production at existing mines.
In 2024, Zambia's copper production increased by 12% to 820,676 mt, up from 732,583 mt in 2023, which marked the lowest production level since 2009.
Copper is a critical raw material for power systems and renewable energy technologies. Zambia is also a major copper producer in Africa, second only to the DRC.
Musokotwane said: "Our efforts to revitalize the mining industry have begun to bear fruit."
