[India Imposes Anti-Dumping Duty on Aluminum Foil Exports from China]
On March 17, the Indian Ministry of Finance announced a provisional anti-dumping duty of $619-$873 per mt on aluminum foil imports from China, applicable to aluminum foil with a thickness of 5.5-80 microns. According to reports, the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) in India found that low-priced dumping of Chinese aluminum foil has caused damage to the domestic industry. In the first 11 months of 2024, India's aluminum foil imports from China were up 15.64% YoY, continuing the growth trend since 2021. Indian aluminum companies are concerned that Chinese aluminum foil may further flood the Indian market following US tariffs. This measure was initiated at the request of Indian companies such as Hindalco, aiming to protect domestic manufacturing.
