Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On the evening of March 17, CATL and NIO signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Ningde, Fujian, aiming to establish the world's largest battery swap network and drive standardization in the industry, according to a post on CATL's WeChat account.

Under the agreement, both parties will leverage their technological expertise, management capabilities, platform resources, and brand influence to build a cutting-edge, large-scale battery swap service network for passenger vehicles. This initiative aligns with global automotive industry trends and supports China's new energy vehicle (NEV) development strategy.

A key aspect of the partnership is the standardization of battery swap technology. CATL and NIO will work together to enhance network sharing and improve battery swapping services, making them more accessible and efficient. CATL will provide support for NIO's battery swap network expansion, while NIO's FIREFLY sub-brand will integrate CATL's Choco-Swap standard into its future models.

The two companies will operate a dual-network business model, offering seamless battery swapping services to improve the convenience of electric vehicle mobility.

In the long term, they also plan to help develop and promote national battery swap standards, ensuring cross-brand and cross-car model battery compatibility.

Additionally, they will collaborate to establish a closed-loop battery ecosystem, covering battery R&D, battery swapping services, asset management, second-life utilization, and material recycling, ultimately enhancing cost efficiency and sustainability across the NEV industry.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
