SAIC-GM's Buick to put new PHEV variant of GL8 model onto market in H1 2025

On March 17, SAIC-GM's Buick brand announced via its WeChat account the Chinese name of the Buick GL8 LS PHEV model, 陆尚 (called Lushang in Chinese Pinyin).

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On March 17, SAIC-GM's Buick brand announced via its WeChat account the Chinese name of the Buick GL8 LS PHEV model, 陆尚 (called "Lushang" in Chinese Pinyin). Positioned as a high-end MPV in the 300,000-yuan segment, the GL8 LS PHEV is expected to hit the market and begin deliveries in the first half of 2025.

As a seven-seater MPV, the GL8 LS PHEV comes equipped with Buick's "Zhenlong" (translating to "True Dragon") plug-in hybrid electric system, promising strong performance in range, power delivery, acceleration, and efficiency. With its introduction, Buick's MPV lineup in 2025 will comprise the GL8, GL8 LS PHEV, GL8 ES, and Buick CENTURY, covering entry-level to ultra-luxury segments.

According to the teaser images released by the automaker, the new vehicle adopts a fresh design while retaining Buick's signature large front grille, integrated headlights, and a rear light bar connected by a decorative panel.

In terms of dimensions, the GL8 LS PHEV measures 5,219mm in length, 1,878mm in width, and 1,807mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,088mm, offering a spacious interior.

Powering the MPV is a plug-in hybrid electric system developed by SAIC-GM, which contains a 1.5T engine with a maximum output of 132kW. The model also boasts a battery-powered range of 111km, enhancing its efficiency and eco-friendly appeal.
