[SMM News Flash] On March 17, Boliden announced that its Odda smelter in Norway was inaugurated today, increasing its annual zinc capacity from 200,000 mt to 350,000 mt. The expansion project was originally scheduled to enhance production levels in Q4 2024, but due to delays in the construction of roasting equipment, the timeline was postponed to Q1 2025. Currently, the overall progress is largely in line with previous expectations. This expansion not only included the construction of extensive logistics and energy infrastructure but also added a new roasting furnace, a sulphuric acid plant, and a new electrolysis workshop. Additionally, the leaching and purification plant, as well as the casting plant, were expanded and modernized. From 2022 to 2024, the zinc production of the Odda smelter was 181,000 mt, 164,000 mt, and 151,000 mt, respectively.
