Beijing (Gasgoo)- On March 17, BMW China announced that it reached cooperation with Huawei Device to integrate BMW's digital ecosystem with HarmonyOS, introducing services such as the BMW Digital Key, HUAWEI HiCar, and the My BMW App.
The collaboration aims to develop smart applications and functions based on HarmonyOS NEXT, enhancing seamless digital experiences for Huawei HarmonyOS users.
"Nearly a quarter of My BMW App users in China use Huawei devices. Through deep integration with the HarmonyOS ecosystem, BMW will enhance in-car applications and intelligent connectivity for HarmonyOS users, elevating the smart driving experience in high-frequency usage scenarios," said Sean Green, President and CEO of BMW Group Region China. "China is becoming a global innovation hub. By co-developing with more Chinese tech companies, BMW is leveraging its strong integration capabilities to drive forward local collaboration 2.0. The BMW Neue Klasse models exemplify this approach, featuring a new intelligent electronic architecture, an advanced interactive experience, and an expanded digital ecosystem."
As part of this partnership, BMW will roll out enhanced smart driving experiences for Huawei device users:
- The BMW Digital Key, developed on HarmonyOS NEXT, will launch within 2025, allowing users to unlock, lock, and start their vehicles via Huawei smartphones.
- A deeply integrated HUAWEI HiCar system will debut in China-produced BMW Neue Klasse models in 2026, enabling seamless "human-vehicle-home" connectivity within the HarmonyOS ecosystem.
- The My BMW App and MINI App, already available on the HarmonyOS NEXT app market since late 2024, allow users to access connected driving services, remotely control their vehicles, and check fuel levels or charging status.
