[Japan to Impose Anti-Dumping Tariffs on Chinese Graphite Electrodes]
Japan's Ministry of Finance council approved on March 12 the policy of imposing anti-dumping tariffs on Chinese graphite electrodes. A tariff of 95.2% will be added to the import price for a period of four months. The Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry will complete an investigation into the factual relationship by late October and reassess whether it is necessary to continue imposing the tariffs. The subcommittee meeting of the council on tariffs, foreign exchange, and other matters held on March 12 approved the policy of increasing the tariffs. The two ministries concluded in their interim investigation report that low-priced imports equivalent to dumping and substantial damage to Japan's domestic industry could be recognized. Japan currently imposes tariffs of 2.1% or 3.3% on Chinese graphite electrodes.
