The plant's initial annual capacity is set at 600,000 units of magnetorheological dampers, supporting approximately 150,000 vehicles.

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On March 13, BeijingWest Smart Mobility Zhangjiakou Automotive Electronics Co., Ltd. ("BeijingWest Smart Mobility") held a grand inauguration ceremony for its new factory in the Shenzhen-Shanwei Special Cooperation Zone (also called "Shenshan Special Cooperation Zone"), marking the official launch of mass production for its fourth-generation MagneRide® magnetorheological suspension system.

BeijingWest Smart Mobility said its Shenshan facility is the first in China to achieve large-scale production of magnetorheological suspension system. The plant's initial annual capacity is set at 600,000 units of magnetorheological dampers, supporting approximately 150,000 vehicles. In the coming years, production is expected to ramp up to serve two million vehicles, driving economies of scale and enabling automakers to enhance cost-effectiveness while making advanced intelligent suspension systems more accessible to consumers.

The fourth-generation MagneRide® suspension system produced at the Shenshan factory offers exceptional damping adjustability and comprehensive vehicle body control. It can generate thousands of Newtons of damping force within just one millisecond, enabling near-instantaneous vehicle posture adjustments that significantly enhance both handling and comfort. With symmetric compression and rebound damping characteristics, this system is particularly well-suited for heavier new energy vehicles (NEVs), providing both robust body support and a smooth driving experience.

The Shenshan factory spans over 60,000 square meters and involves a total investment exceeding 2.3 billion yuan. As the company’s sixth production base in China and one of the most automated among its ten global facilities, this plant is set to play a crucial role in the large-scale domestic production of the fourth-generation MagneRide® suspension system.

This latest generation of MagneRide® technology integrates intelligent algorithms with high-precision hardware, making real-time damping adjustments at a frequency of 1,000 times per second. By analyzing data from sensors on road conditions, vehicle dynamics, and driving status, the system dynamically optimizes vehicle handling and ride comfort. Additionally, its standardized hardware allows for easy damping characteristic adjustments through software, enabling broad compatibility across different vehicle platforms.

The Shenshan plant incorporates a fully digitalized value chain and automated control over key manufacturing processes. It features an AI-powered industrial vision system for full-process error prevention, ensuring 100% traceability in critical procedures to guarantee industry-leading quality for every damper produced. The factory utilizes an advanced manufacturing execution system (MES) to oversee the entire production chain—from order management to final product delivery—providing real-time monitoring of quality, equipment status, production efficiency, and workflow progress. Smart logistics solutions, including automated storage systems, vertical shelving, and AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle) and ARM (Automated Retrieval Machine) logistics equipment, further enhance operational efficiency.

Reinforcing its commitment to sustainability, the factory's rooftop is equipped with over 26,000 square meters of solar panels, with a total installed capacity of 3 megawatts—reducing carbon emissions by approximately 3,000 tonnes annually. The plant's annual solar power generation is sufficient to meet its operational electricity needs, with a goal of achieving 100% green energy consumption by 2027.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
