【Transtex Launches Lithium-Ion Powered eAPU】

As a leading company in the trailer aerodynamics technology sector, Transtex entered the tractor market in June 2024 through the acquisition of DClimate. Recently, Transtex, through its DClimate division, is introducing a lithium-ion battery-powered electric auxiliary power unit (eAPU).

The system, named DClimate Lithium Pro, features a hybrid configuration that combines an LFP (LiFePO4) battery pack with four starter batteries. The bidirectional charging technology enables power transfer between the lithium-ion battery and the starter batteries, supporting both wet and AGM batteries to extend battery life and reduce the need for jump-starts on the road.

Transtex stated that compared to traditional battery or diesel-powered APU systems, this new eAPU offers several advantages, including 4,000 charge cycles, a 10-year system lifespan, and a weight reduction of 150 pounds.

Transtex President Matthew Desjardins said, "Fleets are under pressure to reduce emissions, comply with idling restriction regulations, attract and retain drivers, and maximize return on investment. The DClimate Lithium Pro is designed to address these challenges."

Martin Duffy, head of Transtex's DClimate division, added, "This energy-efficient DClimate Lithium Pro also provides an extended runtime of 6.7 kWh. Compared to DClimate's current solutions, it delivers over 15% more energy per cycle, offering greater capacity for auxiliary loads. This will result in significant savings by reducing fuel costs and improving operational efficiency."

【Orion Resource Partners Invests $250 Million in Lithium Americas】

On March 11, Orion Resource Partners made a strategic investment of $250 million in Lithium Americas Corp, a lithium ore resources exploration and development company. Headquartered in Vancouver, Lithium Americas is advancing the first phase of production at the Thacker Pass project, targeting a designed capacity of 40,000 mt per year of battery-grade lithium carbonate. The investment is expected to close during the week of March 10 and will support the development and construction of the second phase of the Thacker Pass lithium project in Humboldt County, Nevada.

Orion committed to purchasing $195 million in senior unsecured convertible bonds and signed a production payment agreement under which Orion will pay Lithium Americas $25 million in exchange for payments tied to the minerals processed and total revenue generated from the Thacker Pass project. Orion also committed to purchasing an additional $30 million in bonds upon the company's request. Thacker Pass is a joint venture between Lithium Americas (62% ownership) and General Motors (38% ownership). Orion founder and CEO Oskar Lewnowski stated that this strategic investment will "support the development of the domestic lithium supply chain to meet the growing demand across industries."

【Amara Raja to Invest in Lithium-Ion Battery Gigafactory】

Recently, Amara Raja Batteries announced plans to establish an advanced lithium-ion battery R&D and manufacturing facility in the Mahbubnagar district of Telangana, India. The company plans to invest over 950 billion rupees over the next decade to build a gigafactory with a capacity of up to 16 GWh for lithium battery cells, along with a 5 GWh battery pack assembly unit.

Amara Raja Giga Corridor and Innovation Hub

Amara Raja has chosen Telangana as the location for its ambitious Amara Raja Giga Corridor project, which will include the advanced energy research and innovation center in Hyderabad—Amara Raja E-hub. This facility will be equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories and testing infrastructure for materials research, prototyping, product life cycle analysis, and proof-of-concept demonstrations.

Driving Innovation and Sustainability

The company envisions E-hub as a catalyst for multi-stakeholder collaboration, fostering entrepreneurship in sustainable energy technologies. This initiative aligns with the Indian government's "Atmanirbhar Bharat" (Self-Reliant India) vision, aiming to promote self-sufficiency in energy storage solutions.

Scaling Up Production Through the Gigafactory

Amara will also establish a commercial-scale pilot plant featuring its first gigascale lithium battery cell production facility. To this end, the company has formed a dedicated subsidiary named Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies. This strategic investment underscores ARBL's commitment to innovation, sustainability, and leadership in India's lithium-ion battery sector.

【Cornish Lithium Approved to Build "UK's First" Lithium Production Facility】

Recently, Cornish Lithium received approval to build the UK's first commercial lithium production facility. Cornwall Council granted permission for the company to construct production facilities at the Cross Lanes lithium mine project near Chacewater.

The Cross Lanes facility will include a demonstration plant phase, enabling Cornish Lithium to conduct multi-stage testing and improvements, with the ultimate goal of achieving full-scale commercial production at the site. The first phase of the project will involve drilling and testing two production-scale geothermal wells, each 2,000 meters deep, building on the successful exploration drilling completed in 2023.

The advancement of this project marks a significant step for the UK in lithium resource development, laying the foundation for the localization of future lithium supply chains.
