Pangang's High-End Sponge Titanium Capacity Has Increased Significantly

Published: Mar 13, 2025 16:29
Since the beginning of this year, in response to the complex and volatile market conditions, Pangang Group Panzhihua Titanium Co., Ltd. has been expanding and strengthening its traditional products while continuously advancing research on key core technologies, accelerating the pace of transformation and upgrading, and striving to increase the production scale of high-end sponge titanium. In the first two months of this year, the production of small-particle titanium and ultra-soft titanium increased by 53.13% and 23.04%, respectively, compared to the average monthly production in 2024, further enhancing the production capacity of high-end sponge titanium products.

Since the beginning of this year, in the face of a complex and volatile market environment, Pangang Group Panzhihua Titanium Co., Ltd. has been expanding and strengthening its traditional products while continuously advancing breakthroughs in key core technologies, accelerating the pace of transformation and upgrading, and striving to enhance the production scale of high-end sponge titanium. In the first two months of this year, the production of small-particle titanium and ultra-soft titanium increased by 53.13% and 23.04%, respectively, compared to the average monthly production in 2024, further improving the production capacity of high-end sponge titanium products.

The company has formed a task force in collaboration with domestic research institutes and renowned universities, dedicated to the R&D of high-end sponge titanium production technologies. They have overcome technical challenges such as enhancing the capacity of molten salt chlorination furnaces, regulating the porous structure of sponge titanium, and controlling key impurity elements and Brinell hardness in sponge titanium. Their project, "Research and Application of Key Technologies for Preparing High-Quality Ultra-Soft Sponge Titanium for Aerospace," has won the First Prize of the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Science and Technology Award and the First Prize of the Sichuan Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award.

Verified by authoritative detection institutions, the high-end sponge titanium produced by the company features low nitrogen and oxygen content, low Brinell hardness, uniform particle size, excellent processing plasticity, and consistent chemical composition across batches. Its comprehensive performance has reached the advanced level of similar domestic products and is suitable for various high-end industrial fields such as aerospace, high-end equipment manufacturing, medical devices, and 3C.

Moving forward, the company will conduct research on production technologies such as using a 10 mt inverted U-shaped furnace for small-particle titanium and temperature control for aerospace-grade sponge titanium, aiming to increase the proportion of high-end product production and improve product profitability.

Silicon Metal Market Review for January and Outlook for February
In January, the silicon metal market experienced a relatively loose supply-demand balance, with a theoretical inventory buildup of approximately 30,000 mt. In February, both supply and demand contracted simultaneously, and the market is expected to show a tight balance or minor destocking. The current high industry inventory still requires time to be digested, and the sustainability of destocking remains a key variable affecting price trends and market sentiment.

A plant in northern China is calling for bids for indium ingots and bismuth ingots
SMM, February 6 - According to SMM’s investigation of market information, a large smelter in northern China began public bidding for a certain quantity of indium ingots and bismuth ingots starting yesterday. Market sources indicate that the starting price for these indium ingots exceeds 4,000 yuan per kilogram, while the starting price for bismuth ingots is above 150,000 yuan per ton. The bidding results are expected to be announced before the Spring Festival. Market participants note that, given the clear trend of sluggish trading activity ahead of the Spring Festival, the timing of this bidding is not ideal. However, the relatively favorable starting prices have generated considerable market anticipation for the outcome of the bidding.
