In terms of ranking changes, compared to January 2024, the competitive landscape of the top 3 companies in January 2025 remained relatively stable, with CATL, BYD, and LGES maintaining their rankings. The rankings of the second and third tiers changed significantly: SK On rose from 6th to 4th; Panasonic dropped from 4th to 5th; CALB rose from 7th to 6th; Gotion High-tech rose from 8th to 7th; Samsung SDI fell from 5th to 8th; SVOLT Energy Technology and EVE maintained their rankings at 9th and 10th, respectively.

In terms of YoY changes in installations, among the top 10 companies, in January 2025, all battery companies except Samsung SDI achieved positive growth.

For Chinese companies, in January 2025, the Chinese companies listed among the global top 10 in power battery installations were CATL, BYD, CALB, Gotion High-tech, SVOLT Energy Technology, and EVE. These six companies had a combined installation volume of 43.7 GWh, accounting for 68.1% of the market share.

Among them, CATL continued to hold the global top position with an installation volume of 25 GWh, up 25% YoY, with a market share of 38.9%.

BYD ranked second globally with an installation volume of 10.9 GWh, up 42.6% YoY, with a market share of 16.9%, making it the fastest-growing company among the top 10 and showing continued competitiveness.

Among the other four Chinese companies on the list, in January 2025, CALB ranked 6th globally with an installation volume of 2.4 GWh, up 16.9% YoY, with a market share of 3.8%; Gotion High-tech ranked 7th globally with an installation volume of 2.2 GWh, up 35% YoY, with a market share of 3.4%; SVOLT Energy Technology ranked 9th globally with an installation volume of 1.9 GWh, up 57.3% YoY, the highest growth rate among the top 10 companies, with a market share of 3.0%; EVE ranked 10th globally with an installation volume of 1.3 GWh, up 23.2% YoY, with a market share of 2.1%.

For South Korean companies, in January 2025, LGES and SK On both achieved growth in installations, while Samsung SDI experienced a YoY decline. The combined installation volume of the three companies was 10.9 GWh, accounting for 16.9% of the market share.

Specifically, LGES maintained its global 3rd position with an installation volume of 6.0 GWh, up 10.1% YoY, with a market share of 9.3%.

SK On ranked 4th with an installation volume of 2.9 GWh, up 35% YoY, with a market share of 4.5%, showing steady performance.

Samsung SDI ranked 8th with an installation volume of 2.0 GWh, down 23.7% YoY, with a market share of 3.1%, showing a significant decline. According to SNE Research, the main reason for Samsung SDI's decline was reduced battery demand from major automakers in the European and North American markets.

For Japanese companies, Panasonic ranked 5th in battery installations with 2.5 GWh, a slight YoY increase of 0.3%, with a market share of 3.8%, indicating a noticeable decline in competitiveness.

It is worth noting that brands outside the top 10 collectively contributed to market expansion, with installations increasing from 4.9 GWh in January 2024 to 7.2 GWh in January 2025, up 48.0% YoY, and market share rising from 9.5% to 11.2%.

SNE Research analyzed that in 2025, with the expansion of subsidies in some countries and regions, sales in Europe began to recover. The US may reduce tax incentives, but the likelihood of complete elimination is expected to be low. Meanwhile, the Chinese market has maintained steady growth, but sales temporarily slowed due to the Chinese New Year. Changes in trade and regulatory policies across countries are expected to reshape the competitive landscape of the EV market.

According to the January 2025 monthly power battery report released by the China Automotive Power Battery Industry Innovation Alliance, in January, China's power battery installations reached 38.8 GWh, down 48.6% MoM, but up 20.1% YoY. Among them, ternary battery installations were 8.5 GWh, accounting for 22.1% of the total, down 40.4% MoM and 32.2% YoY; LFP battery installations were 30.2 GWh, accounting for 77.9% of the total, down 50.5% MoM but up 53.5% YoY.

Compared to before, in January, the top 10 domestic power battery enterprises remained relatively stable, while rankings from 11th to 15th changed significantly. Among them, CORNEX New Energy and SANY Red Elephant were listed for the first time, ranking 12th and 15th, respectively.
