During the Two Sessions, Jia Zhenglan, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and President of the Shaanxi Council for the Promotion of International Trade (Shaanxi Chamber of International Commerce), was interviewed by a reporter from China Nonferrous Metals News. She shared her views on the development of the domestic nonferrous metals industry and Sino-foreign economic and trade cooperation. She particularly emphasized her focus on the magnesium metal industry and is expected to foresee the prospects of international cooperation.

During the National Two Sessions, Jia Zhenglan, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and President of the Shaanxi Council for the Promotion of International Trade (Shaanxi Chamber of International Commerce), was interviewed by a reporter from China Nonferrous Metals News. She shared her views on the development of the domestic nonferrous metals industry and Sino-foreign economic and trade cooperation. She particularly emphasized her focus on the magnesium metal industry and expressed optimism about the prospects for international cooperation.

Green Building Materials and Magnesium Metal

Key Areas for Future Development

"I have always been very concerned about green building materials, especially magnesium metal," Jia Zhenglan stated directly. She pointed out that magnesium alloys, due to their advantages such as lightweight, good heat dissipation, strong recyclability, and low safety risks, have become a new green material strongly encouraged by the state, with broad application prospects. In 2024, she proposed a motion themed "Formulating National Standards for Magnesium Alloy Construction Templates as Soon as Possible," aiming to promote the market application of magnesium alloy construction templates through standardization. Although this proposal was made a year ago, its importance remains undiminished, especially against the backdrop of the "dual carbon" goals, where the demand for green building materials continues to grow.

Currently, the global market size for green building materials is expanding. According to a research report by China Research and Intelligence, the market size for green building materials reached 202.41 billion yuan in 2023, up 19.17% YoY. It is expected that by 2026, the annual revenue of green building materials will exceed 300 billion yuan, with an average annual growth rate of over 10% from 2024 to 2026. As the world's largest producer and consumer of building materials, China is at a critical stage of industrial upgrading. Magnesium metal, as a representative lightweight material, holds significant potential in the construction sector.

Jia Zhenglan called on the industry to accelerate technological innovation and standard formulation to promote the improvement and upgrading of the magnesium metal industry chain.

Shaanxi's Nonferrous Metal Enterprises Are Highly Influential

When discussing the development of the nonferrous metals industry in Shaanxi Province, Jia Zhenglan expressed great pride. She stated that Shaanxi Province is home to several influential nonferrous metal enterprises, such as Shaanxi Nonferrous Metals Group. Companies like Baoji Titanium Group have not only made significant contributions to local economic development but also led the nation in technological innovation.

She specifically mentioned the innovative achievements of the Northwest Institute for Nonferrous Metal Research. "The Northwest Institute has a high efficiency in technology transfer and has successfully incubated multiple publicly listed firms. Many of its technologies are groundbreaking and pioneering, playing a significant role in supporting high-quality development in some of our key industry sectors and contributing to the development of national key industries and enterprises," she said.

It is reported that the Northwest Institute for Nonferrous Metal Research owns several publicly listed firms, including Western Metal Materials, Western Superconducting Technologies, and Western Titanium New Energy, as well as "New Third Board" companies like Western Baode. With continuous breakthroughs in the "hard technology" field, the Northwest Institute has not only driven the development of Shaanxi's nonferrous metals industry but also secured an important position in both the national and global markets.

Jia Zhenglan believes that the successful experiences of Shaanxi's nonferrous metals industry can serve as a reference for other regions, particularly in promoting green transformation and technological innovation.

Sino-Foreign Cooperation

New Opportunities for Mutual Benefit and Win-Win Outcomes

When discussing the internationalization of enterprises, Jia Zhenglan noted that Chinese enterprises currently have a strong desire to "go global," while foreign enterprises are also highly interested in the Chinese market. She believes that this mutual willingness to cooperate provides new momentum for global economic recovery and growth.

"China, as a super-large-scale market, offers abundant application scenarios and continuously upgrading consumer demand, which is highly attractive to international enterprises," Jia Zhenglan emphasized. She stated that Sino-foreign cooperation is not only a necessity for enterprise development but also an important pathway to upgrading the global industry chain. She hopes that through cooperation, mutual benefits and win-win outcomes can be achieved, driving industrial upgrades in countries with demand while opening up broader international opportunities for Chinese enterprises.

Future Outlook

Green and Innovation-Driven Development

Amid the complex international landscape, Jia Zhenglan remains confident in the cooperation between Chinese and foreign business communities. She called on industry enterprises to seize this historic opportunity, increase R&D investment, drive technological innovation, actively participate in international cooperation, and enhance global competitiveness. "With joint efforts from all parties, the future of Sino-foreign economic and trade cooperation is promising, and the green building materials industry will make greater contributions to achieving sustainable development goals," Jia Zhenglan said.
