Kenya Launches Tenders for two 40 MW Solar Projects

Kenya has launched tenders for two 40 MW solar power projects. Kenya-based consultancy Apex is leading the search for EPC contractors for the 40 MW Isinya solar power plant in Kajiado County and the 40 MW Makueni solar power plant in Makueni County, both located in the southern part of the country.

Kenya has launched tenders for two 40 MW solar power projects. Kenya-based consultancy Apex is leading the search for EPC contractors for the 40 MW Isinya solar power plant in Kajiado County and the 40 MW Makueni solar power plant in Makueni County, both located in the southern part of the country.

The scope of the projects includes design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and maintenance of the plants. Bidders are required to have proven experience in implementing solar projects with a minimum capacity of 40 MW, as well as prior experience in Africa or similar markets. According to the announcement, the request for expressions of interest will remain open until suitable partners are identified.

Data from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) shows that as of the end of 2023, Kenya had deployed a total of 358 MW of solar capacity.
