Laos' First PV + ESS Project Connected to the Grid and Put into Operation
On March 1, the commercial operation ceremony of Laos' first PV + ESS project—the 50 MW PV Power Generation Project (Phase I) in Xebangfai, Khammouane—constructed by China Energy Gezhouba Power Company under an EPC contract, was held in Vientiane, the capital of Laos. This marked the project entering a new phase of substantial operation, with Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone witnessing this significant moment.
The Xebangfai PV Project in Khammouane Province is located in Thakhek District and Xebangfai District. It is a key project under the "Belt and Road Initiative" and the first large-scale PV project invested in and operated by a Chinese enterprise in Laos. The Phase I of the project has an installed capacity of 50.1 megawatts, along with an ESS capacity of 10 megawatt hours.
Upon completion, the project will generate an average annual grid-connected electricity output of nearly 100 million kilowatt-hours, effectively optimizing Laos' power structure, alleviating the tight electricity supply, injecting green momentum into local economic and social development, and laying a solid foundation for building a China-Laos "Low-Carbon Economic Corridor.
