Chinese autonomous driving solution provider Pony.ai has officially launched its autonomous vehicle demonstration route in Guangzhou, offering passengers Robotaxi rides between key locations.

Beijing (Gasgoo)- Chinese autonomous driving solution provider Pony.ai has officially launched its autonomous vehicle demonstration route in Guangzhou, offering passengers Robotaxi rides between key locations such as the city center, Baiyun International Airport, and Guangzhou South Railway Station, the company disclosed on Feb. 21.

As the only company in Guangzhou approved for autonomous vehicle demonstration route operations, Pony.ai is also the first to introduce Robotaxi services to the city's center, airport, and high-speed rail stations.

The pilot program features four initial routes connecting five locations, operating daily between 10:00-15:00 and 19:30-21:30. The vehicles used in the route demonstration are equipped with Pony.ai's sixth-generation autonomous driving system and are based on the GAC Toyota Sienna, which has been included in Guangzhou's approved list for intelligent connected vehicle operations. The program has received the necessary permissions from local government authorities.

This launch reflects Guangzhou's active support for autonomous driving policies, particularly with the recently approved "Guangzhou Intelligent Connected Vehicles Innovation Development Regulations," set to take effect on February 28, 2025. These regulations aim to promote mixed operations of human-driven and autonomous vehicles in key urban areas, highways, and transport hubs. The new autonomous routes also signify Pony.ai's progress in both developing autonomous technologies and expanding into commercial operations.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
