Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On February 19, 2025, Mercedes-Benz officially put the 2025 S-Class model onto the Chinese market. The new lineup continues to offer five variants powered by 2.5T and 3.0T inline-six engines across three power performance levels, with prices ranging from 962,600 yuan to 2,042,600 yuan. The key highlights of this update include standard L2+ navigation-assisted driving and dynamic star emblem welcome lights.

As an annual facelift, the exterior design remains largely unchanged, preserving the W223 generation's sophisticated and business-oriented aesthetic. The polygonal front grille with a symmetrical three-bar design continues to define the front fascia, flanked by softer-looking matrix LED headlights. Additionally, the new dynamic star emblem welcome lights, now standard across the lineup, add a sense of ceremony upon entry.

Inside, the intelligent features have been significantly upgraded. The active ambient lighting system now incorporates 263 multi-color gradient LED lights, creating a floating island design that enhances the immersive lighting experience. The cockpit features a 12.3-inch glasses-free 3D digital instrument cluster and a 12.8-inch OLED central display, which seamlessly integrates with the 7-inch MBUX rear tablet and dual 11.6-inch rear-seat entertainment screens, enabling six-screen interaction.

A major highlight is the "Mind-Reading Voice Assistant", which utilizes in-cabin cameras to interpret head movements, hand gestures, and body language. The MBUX Intelligent Sensing Assistant can anticipate and execute over 20 functions without direct user input—for instance, if the driver turns their head toward the rear window, the system will automatically open the rear sunshade.

The L2+ navigation-assisted driving system is now standard across all trim levels, allowing for automated lane changes, overtaking, and maintaining safe distances from larger vehicles on highways and urban expressways. The system dynamically adjusts speed based on real-time traffic conditions, ensuring smooth and stable maneuvers even in complex situations like sudden lane merges.

In terms of powertrain, the 2025 Mercedes-Benz S-Class retains its mild-hybrid gasoline engines. The S 400 L features a 2.5T+48V system delivering 313 hp and 450 Nm of torque, while the S 450 L offers an upgraded 367 hp and 500 Nm. The S 500 L, equipped with a 3.0T+48V system, produces 435 hp and 520 Nm. All models come with a 9-speed automatic transmission for a refined driving experience.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
