Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On February 18, Tesla officially announced via its Weibo account that mass production of the refreshed Model Y has begun at its Gigafactory Shanghai.

Tesla China unveiled the updated Model Y on January 10, offering two trim levels priced at 263,500 yuan and 303,500 yuan, reflecting an increase of 12,600 yuan to 13,600 yuan compared to the previous version.

The new Model Y features a more aerodynamic design while retaining Tesla's signature elements such as the panoramic glass roof, frameless doors, and flush door handles.

Inside, the vehicle maintains a minimalist aesthetic with a 15-inch rectangular display and an AMD Ryzen processor for its infotainment system, ensuring a streamlined interface and easy-to-use shortcut menus. New additions include ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, and a rear seat extended by 15mm for added comfort. With the one-touch folding function, cargo space expands to over 2,130 liters.

The refreshed Model Y also comes equipped with 16 speakers, far-side airbags, Tesla's FSD Hardware 4.0, and eight cameras, delivering a reinforced body structure and an assisted driving system claimed to be ten times safer than human drivers.

In terms of performance, the new Model Y is available in three variants: rear-wheel drive, long-range all-wheel drive, and high-performance. Maximum power outputs are 220 kW, 331 kW, and 357 kW, respectively, with 0–100 km/h acceleration times of 5.9 seconds, 5 seconds, and 3.7 seconds. Tesla states that this is the longest-range Model Y to date, with the long-range AWD version offering up to 719 km of estimated CLTC-rated range. Energy consumption is as low as 11.9 kWh/100 km, allowing drivers to travel 1,000 km with just one charge amid journey. A 15-minute fast charge can replenish approximately 250 km of range.

Notably, the new Model Y's launch edition features exclusive design elements, including a tailgate badge, a welcome light projection, illuminated door sills, branded phone charging pads, premium fabric floor mats, and black suede-style trim for enhanced distinctiveness.

According to Tesla's official website, deliveries of the refreshed Model Y are set to begin in late February, with the launch edition available for a limited time until February 28.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
