Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Liuzhou Wuling Automobile Industry Co., Ltd. (called Wuling Automobile Industry for short), a partly-owned subsidiary of Wuling Motors Holdings (Wuling Motors), recently announced that its φ203mm leading shoe drum EPB (Electrical Parking Brake) product has entered the mass production phase, with the product already equipped in vehicle models from the Vietnamese automaker, according to a post the company issued on February 14 via its WeChat account. This marks a significant leap from traditional mechanical cable brakes to an electric-controlled drum EPB system.

In response to addressing issues in conventional braking systems, such as high drag torque, inefficient cable force transmission, slow response, and calibration challenges, Wuling Automobile Industry has independently developed the drum EPB product, which integrates an electric motor directly onto the drum brake assembly. This design minimizes space requirements while delivering rapid response, near-zero drag torque, and reduced noise, capitalizing on the advantages of brake-by-wire technology.

A key breakthrough of this new system lies in its in-house developed EPB controller, which acts as the control unit for the electronic parking brake. It controls the parking function of the drum EPB product, enhancing the system’s braking performance.

The controller, characterized by strong driving capability and low static power consumption, supports functions like manual parking, manual release, automatic parking, automatic release, and hill-start assist, making it applicable to passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, and special-purpose vehicles.

On May 25, 2024, Wuling Automobile Industry showcased its drum EPB and EPB controller at the launch ceremony of China’s National Science and Technology Week in Guangxi.

Equipped with the company's braking product, the model from the Vietnamese automaker was put onto the market. Based on this effort, Wuling's φ203mm drum EPB product was also adopted by the client, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the overseas export of the product.

Currently, Wuling Automobile Industry has achieved technical breakthroughs with its drum EPB system, including zero drag, standardized, and modular design. Both the φ260mm and φ203mm leading shoe drum EPB products have entered mass production, and the φ250mm bidirectional self-boosting brake prototype has sailed through the B-round road testing on a vehicle model from a China's self-owned brand.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
