On February 13, according to the South African government website, South Africa's Minister of Electricity and Energy, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, announced a series of significant initiatives and plans, drawing widespread attention.

Ramokgopa stated that to promote the modernization of South Africa's energy infrastructure, the Department of Electricity and Energy has successfully designed a private sector investment tool aimed at mobilizing resources to support related construction efforts. He revealed that this tool is expected to be introduced nationwide within the next five weeks and will serve as a template for all state-owned enterprises, including Transnet, to advance infrastructure investment.

It is understood that over the next decade, South Africa is expected to require approximately 450 billion rand to expand power transmission lines by about 14,000 kilometers. However, Ramokgopa pointed out that given the relatively weak national sovereign balance sheet and the already impaired balance sheet of Eskom, the South African government cannot shoulder this financial burden alone. Therefore, there is an urgent need to leverage the designed tools to accelerate private sector investment.

In the freight logistics sector, South Africa also has clear development goals. Currently, the country's annual freight volume benchmark is 149 million mt, with a target to increase it to 170 million mt this year and further to 250 million mt by 2030. To achieve this goal, the South African government has decided to focus on specific transport corridors, including the Northern Cape-Saldanha corridor for transporting iron ore and manganese ore, the Northern Corridor for transporting coal and chrome ore, and the Gauteng-Durban corridor for transporting automobiles and general cargo.

Additionally, regarding the geopolitical issues arising from the promulgation of the Expropriation Bill, Ramokgopa emphasized that the South African government will steadfastly advance policies aimed at achieving national transformation. He stated that South Africa is determined to defend the achievements of its democratic endeavors, will explain its position to allies, clearly articulate its vision for the future of South Africa, and unequivocally declare that transformation projects are irreversible.
