Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On February 12, the Chongqing Municipal People's Government held a press conference where the local government outlined its plans to boost the development of the city's new energy vehicle (NEV) industry, targeting annual NEV volume production exceeding1.3 million units in 2025.
To achieve this goal, Chongqing plans to implement three key initiatives:
First, the city plans to drive technological upgrades and foster industrial clustering, capitalizing on the leading role of automakers. Centered on supply chain demands and development plan of key automakers, local government aims to attract critical supply chain projects to fill gaps and expand production capacity, enhancing the ecosystem for the intelligent connected NEV component sector.
Furthermore, the city will deepen the in-depth integration of the new-generation electronic information manufacturing with intelligent connected NEVs. Chongqing is set to implement an action plan for the innovative development of the automotive electronics industry to support the integration of sectors like integrated circuits, flat-panel displays, and automotive electronics. The initiative aims to expedite the development of full-chain automotive software like operating systems, smart cockpits, autonomous driving, and data services, creating a comprehensive "software + intelligence + hardware" integrated development model.
Thirdly, Chongqing will accelerate the deployment of infrastructures, including charging and battery-swapping stations, as well as hydrogen refueling stations to optimize the industrial ecosystem. Meanwhile, local government is set to attract and cultivate talents for the intelligent connected NEV industry, and improve supporting services like automotive finance and NEV insurance, thus building a leading innovative ecosystem for industrial growth.
According to data from the Chongqing Municipal Bureau of Statistics, the city's NEV production reached 953,200 units in 2024, a 90.5% soar compared to 2023.
