[Mexico: Plans to Deploy 4.67 GW of Large-Scale PV by 2030] Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced the 2025-2030 national power system expansion plan, which is expected to increase 13.02 GW of new generation capacity within six years. In the field of new energy generation, the plan includes nine PV projects with a total investment of $4.9 billion and a combined generation capacity of 4.67 GW. These projects are expected to come online between 2027 and 2028. (Polaris Solar PV Network)

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced the 2025-30 national power system expansion plan, which is expected to add 13.02GW of new generation capacity within six years.

In the new energy generation sector, the plan includes nine PV projects with a total investment of $4.9 billion and a combined generation capacity of 4.67GW, expected to come online between 2027 and 2028; it also covers seven wind power projects with a total generation capacity of 2.47GW, requiring an investment of $3.2 billion.

In the fossil fuel generation sector, the plan outlines five combined-cycle projects with a total generation capacity of 3.43GW, a 240MW internal combustion project, and three cogeneration projects in collaboration between the state-owned Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) and Mexican oil giant Pemex, adding 2.4GW of generation capacity.

Claudia Sheinbaum stated that private companies will also actively participate, contributing at least 6,400MW of generation capacity, most of which will come from renewable energy, fully leveraging market dynamics to accelerate the widespread adoption of clean energy.

Additionally, the government plans to build 10 new power plants and restart 16 hydropower projects initiated by the previous administration, which, upon completion, will add 535.6MW of generation capacity.

To match the growth in generation capacity, the plan also allocates $46 billion for the transmission network and $3.6 billion for distribution infrastructure, aiming to comprehensively enhance the efficiency of power transmission and distribution.
