February 13: Processing Fees Struggle to Stand Firm on Quotes, Awaiting Further Demand Rebound Next Week [Daily Review of Spot Aluminum Billets]

Published: Feb 13, 2025 12:42
According to SMM statistics, the aluminum billet inventory in major domestic consumption areas reached 300,400 mt, an increase of 5,900 mt compared to Monday. Around the Lantern Festival, downstream post-holiday resumption of work proceeded in an orderly manner, and the inventory buildup, especially in east China, showed signs of slowing. However, spot aluminum prices continued to retreat from high levels today. Although transactions slightly improved, there were more sellers in the market, and sentiment was weak, making it difficult to stand firm on quotes. Today, the Foshan aluminum billet market reported 150/200 yuan/mt, unchanged; the Wuxi market processing fees were reported at 180/230 yuan/mt, up by 30 yuan/mt; and the Nanchang region processing fees were reported at 170/220 yuan/mt, up by 20 yuan/mt. Indonesian Bauxite Mines to Observe Public Holidays in March 2026, Affecting Operations
[SMM Aluminum Express News] Indonesian bauxite mines generally observe the national public holidays (libur nasional) and collective leave days (cuti bersama) in March 2026, as confirmed by industry players, though exact implementation varies by company policy (e.g., essential operations like maintenance or shifts may continue with adjustments). This creates a potential 7-day extended break (18–24 March), aligning with government SKB (joint ministerial decree) on holidays and cuti bersama for 2026.

Indian Aluminum Industry Urges Exemption from RoDTEP Cuts Amid Global Trade Challenges
[SMM Aluminum Express News] The Aluminium Association of India (AAI), representing major domestic producers, has urged the government to exempt aluminum products from the recent 50% cut in RoDTEP (Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products) rates. Previously, aluminum exports qualified for ~3% RoDTEP benefits for Domestic Tariff Area (DTA) units and ~2.2% for SEZ units. AAI warned that the cut could strain exports amid rising global trade barriers (e.g., tariffs, CBAM), shrinking opportunities, and competition. It also called for 2026-27 RoDTEP rates to be set based on actual unrebated taxes borne by exporters, ensuring fair compensation for both DTA and SEZ units. This aims to maintain competitiveness for Indian aluminum in international markets.
