BeijingWest Smart Mobility Group (BWSM), a parent company of BWI Group, recently secured contracts from a leading Chinese automaker for its magneto-rheological suspension systems.

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- BeijingWest Smart Mobility Group ("BWSM"), a parent company of BWI Group, recently secured a contract from a leading Chinese automaker for its magneto-rheological suspension systems, according to a press release the company issued on Feb. 11 via its WeChat account.

The awarded project covers multiple models, including sedans and SUVs, with an expected lifecycle volume exceeding 600,000 vehicles.

BWSM's fourth-generation MagneRide® dampers, which are applied in the project, will enter mass production in China by mid-2025.

BWSM stated that the prototype vehicles, built on the magneto-rheological suspension system, have achieved significant chassis performance upgrades. The system not only enhances vehicle handling but also delivers exceptional comfort and stability.

The fourth-generation MagneRide® suspension integrates an advanced active damping system with a simplified structure, offering superior ride control, comfort, and safety. It represents an optimal choice for the Chinese automotive market’s transition toward intelligent chassis systems and next-generation active suspension technology.

When installed in vehicles, the system continuously collects data from the entire vehicle, wheels, and pedals via sensors, with the ECU (electric control unit) processing real-time calculations. It achieves high-frequency adjustments of 1,000 times per second, responding 5 to 10 times faster than conventional suspension systems.

Besides, at a cruising speed of 100 km/h, the suspension adapts every 2.5 cm of travel, dynamically adjusting damping within a twofold range to strike an optimal balance between comfort and handling. At low speeds, it provides high damping for enhanced stability and effectively counters acceleration squat, braking dive, and cornering roll.

For automakers, the MagneRide® dampers simplify production by eliminating complex valve structures, enabling standardized hardware with adaptable damping characteristics controlled via software. This not only enhances vehicle development flexibility but also facilitates OTA updates for future tuning. Additionally, its symmetrical compression and rebound force characteristics allow for precise adaptation to road surface variations, significantly shortening the calibration and development cycle.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
