Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On February 8, Great Wall Motor (GWM) officially launched its MIND project in the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA), according to a press release TEDA issued via its WeChat account.

The MIND project aims to construct the company's most advanced intelligent production lines in TEDA, in a bid to supply complete vehicle lighting and thermal management system components, improving the supply chain system and production efficiency.

The project, with a total investment of 1.153 billion yuan, plans to establish two new factories dedicated to photoelectric and thermal systems. The facility will produce automotive and relevant components including air conditioning assemblies, cooling modules, vehicle front lamps, side lights, rear door lights, and auxiliary light products. The project, which is expected to be completed and put into operation this year, will generate an estimated annual output value of around 3 billion yuan upon fully operational.

Up until now, TEDA is home to three major complete vehicle manufacturers, including FAW Toyota, FAW-Volkswagen, and GWM, along with over 200 auto component suppliers. Leveraging this advantage, the zone boasts a comprehensive industrial network covering powertrain, chassis, and body systems as well as upstream materials and downstream services.

GWM's Tianjin Manufacturing Base, as the first complete vehicle manufacturing base outside of Baoding, has complete stamping, welding, painting, and assembly facilities. By the end of 2024, the Tianjin Manufacturing Base had produced a total of 3.98 million vehicles, with an output value of 403.6 billion yuan.

Founded in 2003, MIND Electronics Appliance Co., Ltd., one of GWM's four major parts companies, includes four business sectors including optoelectronics, thermal systems, electrical systems, and smart driving systems. The company has 24 sales outlets and R&D centers as well as 28 production bases globally.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
