[Ukraine Loses Control of Europe's Largest Lithium Mine] According to RIA Novosti, Ukraine lost control of the Shevchenko lithium mine in western Donetsk this week. The deposit is considered "Europe's largest lithium mine," with an estimated thickness of 70-130 meters, located 500 meters underground. The Shevchenko lithium mine was discovered in 1982, with lithium reserves estimated at 13.8 million mt. The deposit is rich not only in lithium but also in other critical mineral resources such as niobium, iridium, beryllium, and tantalum. The transfer of this deposit has had a significant impact on Ukraine and Europe's new energy independence plans. Ukraine had attempted to collaborate with Western countries to develop the mine, but due to its proximity to the front line, development plans were never realized. Currently, the deposit is under Russian control.
