Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Chinese smart mining solution developer WAYTOUS successfully signed a contract with North Weijiamao Coal Power Co., Ltd. for an autonomous driving system project on mining dump trucks at the Weijiamo open-pit coal mine, according to a post the former released on February 8 via its WeChat account.

This marks another milestone in WAYTOUS's continued innovation and technical prowess in the smart mining sector, earning recognition from industry-leading enterprises and setting a benchmark for the automation and intelligent transformation of open-pit coal mining operations.

Located in Ordos, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the Weijiamo open-pit coal mine is a key coal production base for both the region and China Huaneng Group ("Huaneng"). This collaboration aims to accelerate Huaneng's innovation-driven approach, advance equipment upgrades, and integrate innovative resources, contributing to a collective effort in tackling key challenges.

Under the agreement, WAYTOUS in collaboration with Inner Mongolia North Heavy Industries Group Corp., Ltd. (Inner Mongolia North Hauler Joint Stock Co., Ltd.) will provide autonomous driving systems for 14 mining dump trucks operating in the Weijiamo open-pit coal mine. Through technological integration and innovation, the project aims to bring intelligent transformation to the Weijiamo open-pit coal mine, upgrading operational models and enhancing both efficiency and safety. This partnership further highlights WAYTOUS's extensive collaboration network and exceptional resource integration capabilities, underscoring the company’s deep understanding of and commitment to meeting the needs of large state-owned energy enterprises.

The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) released data on the 10th showing that in May 2026, China’s NEV market stabilized and rebounded, with production and sales reaching 1.554 million and 1.496 million units, up 22.4% and 14.4% YoY respectively. The share of NEV sales in total new vehicle sales further rose to 56.9%. In May, China’s auto production and sales reached 2.616 million and 2.629 million units, up MoM and slightly down YoY, though the decline narrowed further. Overall, in the first five months, auto production and sales totaled 12.235 million and 12.207 million units, with NEV production and sales totaling 5.841 million and 5.802 million units, up 2.5% and 3.5% YoY respectively.

[Japan's May New Car Sales Edge Up Nearly 3% YoY] Data on vehicle registrations recently released by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association showed that in May this year, domestic new car sales in Japan reached 332,997 units, edging up 2.75% YoY. Sales in the same period last year were 324,069 units, up 10% YoY. By category, passenger car sales were 276,910 units, up 2.75% YoY, and truck sales reached 55,168 units, up 2.2% YoY.
