SAIC Motor logs 7.86% YoY rise in Jan. 2025 auto sales

SAIC Motor announced on Feb. 4 its monthly auto sales reached 264,166 units in the first month of 2025, up 7.86% from the previous year.

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- SAIC Motor announced on Feb. 4 its monthly auto sales reached 264,166 units in the first month of 2025, up 7.86% from the previous year.

Of the vehicles the group sold last month, 61,098 units were new energy vehicles (NEVs), representing a year-on-year slide of 5.04%.

In addition, SAIC Motor also reported a volume of 68,916 vehicles for its exports and overseas market sales for the month of January, indicating a 7.39% growth over a year earlier.

Breaking down the sales figures by specific subsidiaries, SAIC Volkswagen sold 75,150 vehicles which decreased 20.94% from the year-ago period. SAIC-GM recorded a 6.55% year-on-year dip in its Jan. sales, which stood at 33,641 units. SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicle Company posted a 0.49% year-over-year dip with 50,344 vehicles sold last month. Besides, SAIC-GM-Wuling sold 77,000 vehicles in the same month, which soared 120% from a year ago. IM Motors logged a

44.01% year-on-year plunge with 2,800 vehicles sold in the same period.

On Jan. 19, SAIC Motor and Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) signed a strategic cooperation agreement to advance innovation in electrification, intelligence, and automation. By leveraging SAIC Motor's expertise in vehicle development and manufacturing and BIT's strengths in technology research, talent cultivation, and academic disciplines, the partnership aims to create a comprehensive, multi-faceted, and deeply integrated university-industry collaboration framework.

Moreover, CATL announced on January 10 it had signed an agreement with SAIC Motor to cement their strategic collaboration in multiple areas, including co-development of technologies, aftermarket services for vehicles and batteries, overseas expansion, and battery-swapping innovations.
